We were in a tomorrowland, future selves only. In and out of Tokyo, all over the countryside, together in solitude and wonderment, the tiny deer in Nara, their delicate hooves clicking over stone flecked with mica, cherry blossoms in thick pale clouds above our heads, a pretty fog in spring. Tapioca pearls in sweet green tea slushies, nature sounds and a bullet train beyond, ready to take us home, to the neon and golden street lights, dancing at midnight, silky robes and ramen at 3am. Hand holding, karaoke, the whole deal, a perfect circle between friends, always
beginning and ending, and beginning again.
